8.7 Richter Earthquake Will not Robohkan Floor Building 8
Meteorological Agency, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) Jakarta ensure safe from big earthquakes. But if there really big earthquake tall buildings in Jakarta could not be uprooted.
"About the impact of shocks in case of an earthquake of 8.7 magnitude on jakara, 7 MMI was the picture to stand alone hard, ugly buildings whose construction could collapse, but for buildings over 8 floors it does not matter," explained Deputy Geophysics Meteorological Agency, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) Prih Harjadi in Jakarta, Wednesday (06/01/2011).
Prih explained, the possibility of Jakarta, the quake-affected in other areas large enough. There are at least four sources of earthquakes that could hit Jakarta guncangannya impact.
Namely Semangko Fault and Fault Kemuring in Sumatra, Lembang Fault Fault Cimandiri and in Java, the megathrust in the west and south of the Sunda Strait, and earthquakes in the Java Sea. "In principle, as far as we know Jakarta fault lies not in the area. Therefore there is no source of earthquake in Jakarta, "he said.
Nevertheless, BMKG will install more seismographs recording devices in the bottom of the earth, for results that are known to be sensitive, whether currently there is the potential seismic sources in Jakarta. "But as far as the data we have and the data indicated seismograph, no source of the earthquake in Jakarta," he said.
Map Revision Team Earthquake? Indonesia also said the building 8 floors up in the capital is safe when it comes to exposure to earthquake shocks. This is because the buildings are in compliance with the rules of development or construction.
"If in Jakarta building on 8 floors were checked we believe meets the rules of engineering," said a member of Map Revision Team Earthquake? Indonesia, Masyhur Irsyam.
Which is also famous as the head of disaster mitigation research center of this ITB explains, can be said to be safe from earthquake shocks, the building must meet the standards of oscillation of the bedrock of 0.15 g, plus some safety factor application. These regulations, he added, have been socialized to any construction of buildings, since 2002.
Famous even explain, the coming months, new rules will soon be implemented, namely the standard wobble on bedrock of 0.2 g. If it meets this standard, according to shocks from the origin by 8.7 magnitude quake would not affect the robustness of the building. "If the issue of 8.7 magnitude occurred, the oscillation of the bedrock is of 0.11 g, smaller than the standard we use for the construction of the building," he said.
Therefore, Masyhur continue to remind people to always carefully and follow building codes, while planning and construction process. "During the building is well planned, implemented, monitored properly, safely," he concluded.
