71 Victims of Human Smuggling Be Saved

Thai security authorities freed 71 of whom were women and children victims of human smuggling that would be working in massage parlors and karaoke.

Sadao district deputy police commander Lt. Col. Noppadon Petsus mengatkakan, total of 13 girls under the age of 18 found.

"This operation was done because people complained of the Embassy of Laos in Cambodia. A total of 70 women were citizens of Laos and one from Myanmar," said Petsus As quoted by AFP on Saturday (07/30/2011).

A man in Singapore, Malaysia, and women from Thailand were arrested on charges of human smuggling.

"The penalty for a man on charges of smuggling is very heavy and sometimes punishable by death," he added.

A total of 59 women working in karaoke released police, and 12 others working in the spa, located on the border of Malaysia and Thailand.

Some police said the women will be sold to one of the intermediaries and will be employed in the prostitution sector.
