Turkey rocked by an earthquake 5.4 on the Richter Scale

Turkey was rocked by an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale (SR) today. The earthquake struck eastern Turkey.

The quake occurred in the province of Elazig and Diyarbakir province was up to. Until now there has been no reports of casualties or damage following the quake.

Turkey is often hit by earthquakes as Japan. Turkey's territory lies in the groove ring of fire that stretches from Europe into Asia. So reported Reuters on Thursday (06/23/2011).

Some of the earthquake in Turkey also has considerable strengths. In March 2010, an earthquake measuring 6.0 magnitude in Elazig, led 51 villagers were killed. Elazig region itself known with areas that have dense populations.

Another major earthquake ever struck Turkey in August 1999 occurred in the past. It was 7.4 magnitude earthquake shook Turkey and causing approximately 14 thousand citizens died.
