Sports Prevent "Silent Stroke"

Indisputable importance of exercise for health. In a study of moderate intensity exercise will protect the body from attack or stroke silent minor injuries in the brain that is often not realized.

Silent stroke or silent stroke, this will cause mental deterioration, motor skills, impaired memory, even the occurrence of stroke in the future. "Stroke can also cause dementia, as well as major stroke," said Dr. Joshua Z Willey from Columbia University.

Silent stroke usually occurs in elderly people. To prevent this, Willey suggested that the oma-opa was to begin regular exercise of moderate intensity, such as jogging, swimming, or biking. This is already evidenced in studies involving 1238 people.

For his research, Willey and his team collected information about exercise habits of the respondents. About 43 percent said they never do regular exercise, 36 percent of regular light exercise, and 21 percent of moderate-intensity exercise, such as playing tennis, jogging, or hiking.

Then, 7 years later, the researchers conducted brain scans of the respondents on average were 70 years old. Scan results showed, 16 percent had experienced a silent stroke.

Those who fall into a routine exercise of moderate intensity group was affected by silent stroke risk for a smaller 40 percent compared with people who never exercise. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference between the light exercise with a never exercise.

However, Willey asserted that moderate exercise still have other benefits, such as fitness and flexibility.
