Philippine left-wing rebels shot dead a police officer who was keeping the terminal in the southern Philippines. The incident killed five security forces and one civilian.
As reported by the Associated Press on Wednesday (06/08/2011), New People's Army rebels attacked the village of Madang, on Mindanao.
Philippine military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Leopoldo Galon said the two special forces they were attacked by insurgents while on patrol.
This attack led to six people were killed instantly. The death toll included five members of the security forces and a civilian who is also a local village chief.
Rebel forces had to negotiate with the government for a truce. But both sides failed to reach agreement and the rebels continued to conduct attacks against the police and the Philippine military.
