waste poisonous could be used

Ministry of Environment encourages business people to develop research and treatment of hazardous wastes and toxic (B3). If managed properly, these wastes can bring benefits and new business opportunities.

Deputy Managing Hazardous and Toxic, Hazardous and Toxic Waste, and Waste, Ministry of Environment, Masnellyarti Hilman said, the paradigm that the B3 waste must be disposed of, it should be removed. This is because the B3 waste it still can be managed into various kinds of products of economic value.

He cited the Holcim cement plant and Indocement which has long used a mixture of B3 waste as cement manufacture. High silica content of elements in the B3 waste makes powerful product attached.

"Now is asking permission of whom Gresik cement and cement Padang," said Masnellyarti accompanied by Head of Waste Collection and Utilization B3, Amsor, Tuesday (08/02/2011) in Jakarta.

B3 waste to mix the cement of them obtained from the remaining metal processing steel, namely iron concentrate, mill scale, dust and EAF (electric arc furnace ash). Meanwhile, nickel slag (waste ore smelting) can be used for the manufacture of highway. "Tailings (from the metal ore mining activities) can also be used for the manufacture of concrete," he explained.

Another example is the processing used oil into clean oil that can be used back into the vehicle lubricants. He cited Pennzoil oil is the result of reprocessing used oil into high-quality lubricants. This is an environmentally friendly product because it reduces the waste used oil.

Therefore, Masnellyarti pointed B3 waste arrangements are new opportunities that can be used for business. "As long as it is viewed B3 regulations hinder business activities. However, if seen with new eyes, B3 can be utilized and economic value," he said.

However, he stressed the B3 waste that can be harnessed and managed just a waste originating from waste plant in the country. State does not allow imports of B3 waste for any purpose, even under the pretext of research.
