Air Force plane crash kills eight

The Brazilian Air Force plane crashed in the state of Santa Catarina in the south of the country on Tuesday (08/02/2011), killing all eight people on board, according to the Brazilian military.

The plane took off from Rio de Janeiro at 11:35 local time (21:35 GMT) and disappeared from radar screens before the plane crashed in a creek and exploded 135 kilometers of Florianopolis, the capital of the state, the Brazilian Air Force said in a press release , late Tuesday night.

It was the fifth accident involving a Brazilian Air Force aircraft in 2011. Four previous crash killed five people.
