Jellyfish Disturb British-owned nuclear power plants

A nuclear power plant (NPP) in the UK was forced to close, after the reactor reportedly overloaded. The reactor was filled with jellyfish found in sea water filter.

"The two reactors at Torness nuclear power plant forced to shut down manually on June 28. The closure was done because of the high volume of jellyfish that meets the water in the cooling system," the statement from EDF Energy which operates the nuclear plant told AFP on Friday (1 / 7 / 2011).

Explained that the closure was a safety measure. EDF Energy Party insisted there was no threat of nuclear danger when this incident occurred.

"When the incident took place, there is no danger to society reported," continued the EDF Energy.

Furthermore, the EDF adds, workers are working hard to clean up the jellyfish from the water near the nuclear power plant. While other staff will continue to monitor the threat of other jellyfish.

"The reactor will be switched on again when the number of jellyfish can be reduced dramatically," said the EDF Energy.
