Germany and France Support UN Resolution

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy said he would support the resolution of the UN Security Council (UNSC) against Syria.

"Using violence against people is unacceptable," Merkel said, as quoted by Xinhua on Saturday (06/18/2011).

Meanwhile, Russia yesterday was expressed reluctance in supporting the UN Security Council resolutions. The two countries also intend to negotiate with Russia.

"France will side with Germany in calling for Syria to be given heavy penalties because of his attitude which can not be tolerated," said Sarkozy.

Since mid-March, Syria was hit by a massive demonstration demanding the decline of President Bashar al-Assad of the presidency. The security forces also are committing violence to quell the demonstrations. Thousands of people were killed by the treatment of the security forces.

Many parties, including the human rights activists and Western countries are urging the UN to impose sanctions against Syria.
